The idea is to create joy, not a bunch of garbage… And yet, in order to deliver quality products, plastic is sometimes a necessary part of the equation.
Wherever plastics do enter the equation, Emporium by Mystical Cartoonism products are created from, packaged with, and shipped in the most sustainable material accessible to this small operation.
Wherever conventional plastics are the best option for quality, efforts are focused on minimizing waste, ordering the smallest quantities possible, using as little of the material as possible, phasing out, and choosing materials to maximize product lifespan.
In addition to the info available in my product descriptions, I want to provide transparent material info here, and instructions about how to dispose of and reuse product packaging, for my customers who care to do so consciously:
Nature-flex Cellophane Bag
Used to package Sticky Notes, Sticker Multi-packs, Single Cards, Enamel Pins
Plastic derived from renewable wood pulp grown in managed plantations, designed to decompose under composting conditions and leave no harmful byproducts. Meets ASTM D6400 and EN 13432 certification standards. Commercially compostable, and certified Home Compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
Flexible Poly Zip Bag
Used to package apparel and fiber-based accessories
Plastic derived from biodegradable resin, made of cornstarch, plant-based renewables and nontoxic materials, designed to decompose under composting conditions within 180 days, and leave no harmful byproducts. Meets ASTM D6400 and EN 13432 certification standards. Commercially compostable, and certified Home Compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
Resealable Holographic Bag
Used to package earrings, keychains, small accessories
Plastic is made of Durable PET. Food-safe and re-sealable, can be reused or recycled (plastic type #1).*
Conventional Paper Bubble Mailer
Reusable. Generally not recyclable through curbside programs. Can be accepted by specialized recycling programs.*
Biodegradable Bubble Mailer
Plastic derived from PBAT and modified corn starch designed to decompose under composting conditions and leave no harmful byproducts. Meets ASTM D6400 and EN 13432 certification standards. Commercially compostable, and certified Home Compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
9x12 Flexible Poly Mailer
Plastic contains D2W material, allowing these mailers to eventually break down in the open environment leaving only carbon dioxide, water and biomass behind – no other toxic residues. Can also be recycled with conventional plastics.*
19x24 Flexible Poly Mailer
Plastic is made of polyethylene. Can be reused or recycled (plastic type #4).*
*If your curbside recycling program does not accept soft plastic films, look for the specialty bins at your local grocery, or big box store (Target, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc.) that accept recyclable plastic bags and films.
